03 August 2026: When Trouble Gets Our Attention

Reading: Psalm 46:1-11

Devotional: Nebuchadnezzar was the most powerful man in the world, yet a dream shook him to his core. Comfort and prosperity could not protect him from a troubled heart. God can use unsettling moments to break through the noise of our self-sufficiency. A difficult diagnosis, an unexpected loss, a plan that falls apart – these are not just random interruptions. They are invitations. When your heart is troubled, resist the urge to immediately fix or suppress what you are feeling. Instead, sit with it. Ask God what he is saying. The trouble that gets your attention may be the very thing that draws you closer to him.

Reflection: What recent unsettling moment in your life might God be using to get your attention? Bring one specific worry or fear before the Lord today and ask him to speak to you through it.

04 August 2026: His Ways Are Higher Than Our Ways

Reading: Isaiah 55:6-11

Devotional: God's thoughts and ways are as far above ours as the heavens are above the earth – a distance so vast it cannot be measured or calculated. This is not a discouraging truth. It’s a liberating one. We were never designed to carry the weight of omniscience. We were designed to trust the one who does. When we insist on having all the answers, on controlling every outcome, we are reaching for something that was never ours to hold. Releasing that grip is wisdom. Let the God whose ways are higher carry what only he was intended to carry.

Reflection: In what area of your life are you most tempted to trust your own understanding over God’s? Identify one decision you’re wrestling with and consciously hand it over to God in prayer.

05 August 2026: Plans, Purposes, and Letting Go

Reading: Proverbs 19:21 and James 4:13-17

Devotional: Proverbs 19:21 reminds us that of all the plans forming in the human mind, only the purposes of the Lord will ultimately stand. James echoes this, warning against the arrogance of assuming we know what tomorrow holds. Sometimes we grip our plans so tightly that when reality does not cooperate, we are devastated. Holding our plans loosely is a spiritual discipline. It is a daily acknowledgment that God is sovereign over outcomes we cannot see. Plan faithfully, but surrender the results to the one who actually knows the future.

Reflection: Is there a plan or expectation you are holding so tightly that it causes anxiety or frustration when things do not go accordingly? Take a moment to intentionally pray over it, releasing the outcome to God and saying, "Not my will, but yours be done."

06 August 2026: Humility That Precedes Restoration

Reading: Philippians 2:5-11

Devotional: Nebuchadnezzar's story is ultimately one of humiliation leading to restoration. He had to be brought low before he could truly acknowledge that only God is God. Philippians 2:5-11 shows us how Jesus practiced humility himself. Though he possessed the nature of God, he humbled himself, took on the form of a servant, and submitted even to death. Because of that humility, God exalted him to the highest place. There is a profound spiritual principle at work here: the path upward runs through the valley of surrender. Pride resists this path. Faith embraces it. Where God calls you to humble yourself, trust that restoration is on the other side.

Reflection: Is something keeping you from the surrender toward which God is calling you? Choose one way that you can inhabit a posture of surrender to God today.

07 August 2026: The God Who Keeps You

Reading: Psalm 121:1-8

Devotional: If only God is God, and if he is good, then you have nothing to worry about. Psalm 121 paints a portrait of a God who does not sleep, does not look away, and does not grow tired of watching over you. He guards your going out and your coming in. He shields you from harm. This doesn’t mean you won’t face trials. It is a promise that you are never unguarded, never unseen, never beyond the reach of the one who made heaven and earth. You do not have to be on the watchtower all night. That post belongs to him.

Reflection: What burden are you carrying right now that actually belongs to God? Try to memorize Psalm 121:7-8 and speak it over you life this week.
